Update: 2025-12-05
Description
The Chicago Tribune has sued AI search engine Perplexity for copyright infringement, alleging the company uses their content without permission. Perplexity claims they dont train models with Tribunes work, but the newspaper disputes this, stating Perplexity delivers their content word-for-word. The lawsuit also targets Perplexitys use of Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and their Comet browser bypassing the Tribunes paywall. This is the second lawsuit involving publishers against AI companies over similar concerns.
