Description

Holly, a former bartender, shares her experiences of alcoholism. Holly and Hannah discuss the challenges of being a non-drinker in social situations and the misconceptions people have about sobriety. They also share their experiences of attending events and weddings without drinking and how their social dynamics have changed since getting sober. The conversation explores the association between alcohol and cocaine, and how the brain creates a connection between the two substances. The speakers discuss their personal experiences with addiction, including binge drinking, using drugs, and the difficulty of quitting. They also touch on the impact of addiction on relationships with family. Holly describes her daily routine when she was actively drinking around the clock. Holly emphasizes the secrecy, and pre-planning that comes with addiction. She eventually reached a point of exhaustion and decided to quit drinking for herself. She found support through quit lit, and developed coping strategies to combat cravings. Hollie and Hannah discuss the importance of finding what keeps you sober and filling the void left by addiction. They also highlight the need to eradicate shame around addiction and the power of sharing stories to make others feel less alone.
