Commentary: Tennessee Should Have Control over Gaming Regulations Including So-Called Prediction Markets Which Skirt the Law
Update: 2025-11-25
Description
I appreciated Walter Blanks Jr.’s recent piece, which highlighted the importance of keeping Tennessee in control of its own gaming regulations. His argument reflects something many of us in this state understand instinctively: Tennesseans don’t need Washington telling us how to run our affairs.
I believe our state has built a thoughtful and responsible framework for sports betting and other forms of entertainment regulated here at home. The Tennessee Sports Wagering Council has established robust consumer protections, clear rules, and genuine accountability. When someone places a wager on a game in Tennessee, they know the activity supports programs in our state, not a company operating outside our state’s oversight. And, it's rightfully regulated at the state level.
