Description
This episode is a continuation of the book reviews from episode 4, season1. In this episode I give Edna Lewis’s formula for Making Baking Powder (without Aluminum). I review Jennifer McLagan’s book, FAT. We talk about cooking with fat. We Discuss making homemade butter, which is covered in McLagans book. I mention two more books by McLagan, Bitter, and Bones. We discuss Chicory, and more specifically Radicchio which I explain how I cook it to make it less bitter. I review an illustrated children’s Book titled, Mr. Okra. Buttermilk thinks it’s a great book to prepare children for a field trip to the Farmers Market, and I agree. Olivia covers her review of, The Southern Foodways Alliance, Community Cookbook, and The Pat Conroy’s Cookbook, Recipes of My Life. Buttermilk mentions that we are working on the Cornbread & Buttermilk, Valentine episode, so stay tuned in. We thank Edward Phillips for the very southern slide guitar intro music performed on his resonator guitar. You can find Edward Phillips on YouTube, @edwardphillipsroots.
