The Cowboys struggled all night on Saturday against Fresno State with Wyoming losing on the west coast 24-3.
With the loss, Wyoming falls to 4-6, 2-4 in the Mountain West. The Cowboys put their only points on the board with an Erik Sandvik field goal at the 5:21 mark of the first quarter.
Keith Kelley made the call as the Cowboys put up their only points of the night. The Bulldogs had already scored a touchdown on the rain-soaked field at Valley Children’s Stadium while the Cowboys struggled the rest of the way.
Fresno State extended its lead with a 40-yard field goal with less than 30-seconds to go in the half. The Bulldogs would score twice in the fourth quarter for the convincing 24-3 win.
The Bulldogs dominated Wyoming and the time of possession. Fresno State controlled the ball for 45:03 compared to Wyoming’s 14:57 .
The stats tell the story. The Cowboys were dominated in every area by a Bulldogs team that was not impressive. Wyoming put up 107 net yards of rushing, the Bulldogs 216. Through the air, Fresno threw for 95 yards—not a lot. But Wyoming had just 77 yards passing.
Wyoming Head Coach Jay Sawvel accepted the blame for what he described as a game where the Cowboys defeated themselves.
The Cowboys still have a chance to get bowl-eligible for postseason play on Senior Day this Saturday. Former quarterback Josh Allen will be there. Two more games remain on the schedule. The University of Nevada comes to Laramie on Saturday. The Rebels are 2-8 overall, 1-5 in conference play.
The Cowboys will wrap up the season at Hawaii at the end of the month. The Warriors, who had a bye last week, are 7-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Kickoff against the Rebels this week in Laramie is set for high noon. The Rebels destroyed San Jose State Saturday 55-10.
In other Mountain West games….
Colorado State lost to New Mexico 20-17. Rams have now lost four games in a row and sit at 1-5 in conference play.
Air Force lost at University of Connecticut 16-26.

Carter Jones threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns.
