BORN AND RAISED IN WACO, TEXAS, SHARON WATKINS JONES ATTENDED THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN AND GAINED VALUABLE EXPERIENCE WORKING AT THE STATE CAPITOL AS A LEGISLATIVE AIDE AND LEGISLATIVE DIRECTOR DURING COLLEGE AND FOR SEVERAL YEARS AFTER GRADUATION. SHE IS A CERTIFIED CLASSROOM TEACHER. DYSLEXIA EDUCATION SPECIALIST AND TAUGHT IN ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY COLLEGE SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS. SHARON COMBINED HER COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION WITH HER KNACK FOR ADVOCACY AND LEGISLATIVE IMPACT WHEN SHE RETURNED TO PUBLIC AFFAIRS, DIRECTING PUBLIC POLICY STRATEGIES FOR ACLU OF TEXAS, MANAGING POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS AND CONSULTING AND TRAINING ON DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION.
SHARON WATKINS JONES IS OWNER AND PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT OF WATKINS JONES LLC, A PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND CAMPAIGN MANAGEMENT PRACTICE AND IS THE INAUGURAL DIRECTOR OF THE TEXAS RACIAL EQUITY COLLABORATIVE OF CHILDREN AT RISK, A RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY GROUP. SHE SERVES AS CHILDREN AT RISK'S CHIEF EQUITY OFFICER. SHARON IS A MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC RELATIONS SOCIETY OF AMERICA, A LIFE MEMBER OF THE NAACP AND IS A PAST PRESIDENT OF THE NORTH HOUSTON SUBURBAN CHAPTER OF JACK AND JILL OF AMERICA, INC.
SHE IS A VOLUNTEER ADVOCATE FOR GIRLTREK, A BLACK WOMEN'S WELLNESS ORGANIZATION, AND IS A MEMBER OF THE LINKS, INC., TEXAS SPRING CYPRESS CHAPTER WHERE SHE CURRENTLY SERVES AS THE WESTERN AREA CHAIR OF DISASTER AND EMERGENCY RELIEF. SHE HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INCORPORATED FOR 35 YEARS, IS A MEMBER OF BAY AREA HOUSTON ALUMNAE CHAPTER AND IS SOUTH TEXAS SOCIAL ACTION COORDINATOR, HELPING TO DRIVE THE SORORITY'S POLITICAL AWARENESS AND INVOLVEMENT THRUST.
SHE HAS BEEN MARRIED FOR 29 YEARS TO MICHAEL JONES AND THEY ARE
PROUD PARENTS OF 2 YOUNG ADULTS- A DAUGHTER AND SON.
