One significant and frequently occurring result of disasters of this kind is that a large proportion of the local population are displaced, losing their homes under terrible circumstances.
The MODUSHELTER research project is focused on the creation of sustainable shelters for refugee camps that improves the living conditions and welfare of inhabitants during emergency situations. The project will be involving the use of emerging technologies such as drones, large scale additive manufacturing and Virtual Reality equipment. The proposition is that the modular nature of the design will result in the ability to create singular units that offer suitable shelter, with the possibility to evolve them into compounds of several houses, as required. The flexibility of the system able to generate other kinds of constructions such as sanitation facilities, schools, common rooms, places of worship, …" The presentation is focusing on the use of Virtual Reality with an application developed by David Tree that able the user to design, customise and order their own shelter by interacting with it through VR glasses. ​
