We talked about how he became a British citizen, how Michael Schumacher encouraged him to learn PHP and a bunch of other random things.

We also talked about Derick's career and open source contributions. Derick works at MongoDB (https://www.mongodb.com/) where he focuses on the PHP driver and library.

Derick Rethans is the author and maintainer of Xdebug (https://xdebug.org), the well-known debugging extension in PHP. He is also a well-respected PHP core contributor and release manager.
