Devolution happening but more can be done Te Paati Kakariki Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson
Description
From Te Whare Paremata:
Te Paati Kakariki-Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson supports calls for Oranga Tamariki services to be devolved to Māori following the latest allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour against two staff members at its facilities.
The allegations were made public by OT CEO Chappie Te Kani this week. Te Pāti Māori called for the organisation to devolve its services to hapu and iwi immediately following the accusations.
Te Paati Kakariki co-leader and Minister for Family Violence and Sexual Violence Marama Davidson, says devolution is what hapori and communities are asking for.
“Good work has already begun to move towards communities leading the accountability and safety for rangatahi and that’s what they’ve been asking for.” says Minister Davidson.
She says it’s also an important strategy within Te Ao Rerekura and the prevention of Family Violence and Sexual Violence.
“But its clear that harm needs to stop now and we all need to be accountable for that, across agencies.” says Minister Davidson.
