Māori campaign strategist Willie Jackson says he’ll be surprised if Labour looses the election in Ikaroa-Rahiti.
Cushla Tangaere-Manuel was announced as Labour’s candidate to contest the Ikaroa Rawhiti seat following the defection of incumbent MP Meka Whaitiri to Te Pāti Māori.
Cushla Tangaere-Manuel is currently the Maori rugby programme manager at New Zealand Rugby. In her previous role as CEO of Ngati Porou East Coast (NPEC) rugby she’s credited with raising the profile of the most remotest union in the country and for increasing player numbers at the flaxroots level.
Willie Jackson says the electorate is not just a Labour, but also a Parekura Horomia strong hold.
“Our candidate is very much a supporter of Parekura Horomia and she has been in his group before.” says Willie Jackson.
But he also sends out a strong message to the whānau in the electorate.
“I hope that members remember, who’ve they’ve been with all these years,” says Willie Jackson
