Dormant Bitcoin Wallets Move $180M in Casascius Coins
Update: 2025-12-06
Description
Two long-dormant Bitcoin wallets, linked to physical Casascius coins, recently came back to life, moving a total of two thousand Bitcoin, now worth around one hundred eighty million dollars. These coins, created in 2011 and 2012, had remained untouched for over a decade. Casascius coins, unique physical collectibles with embedded private keys, were created by Mike Caldwell. He stopped producing them in 2013 due to regulatory pressure. The recent movements of these coins, which held substantial amounts of Bitcoin, remain unclear.
