ELITE: BYU, Texas Tech, Iowa State SHOCK Big 12 With MASSIVE FCS Victories, TOOK CARE OF BUSINESS!
Description
Week 1 of the 2025 college football season saw a trio of Big 12 teams—BYU, Texas Tech, and Iowa State—start their campaigns with overwhelming victories, showcasing offensive firepower against outmatched FCS opponents. The day was marked by record-setting performances and explosive plays, leaving little doubt about the outcomes from the opening quarters. In Provo, BYU delivered a historically dominant performance, annihilating Portland State 69-0. The win marked the largest shutout victory in the program's history. The offense was unstoppable, amassing an incredible 468 yards on the ground alone. The Cougars' attack was masterfully led by true freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier, who announced his arrival with a phenomenal debut, accounting for five total touchdowns—three passing and two rushing—all before halftime. Eight different players found the end zone for BYU, underscoring a comprehensive team effort that completely suffocated the Vikings, who were held to just 51 total yards of offense. Meanwhile, No. 23 Texas Tech asserted its will in Lubbock, cruising to a 67-7 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Red Raiders' offense, under the command of senior quarterback Behren Morton, exploded for a 47-0 lead by halftime. Morton was surgically efficient, throwing for 201 yards and four touchdowns before an injury scare saw him exit the game. The contest was interrupted by a 90-minute weather delay at the half, resulting in shortened quarters, but it did little to slow the Red Raiders' momentum as they confidently secured the season-opening win. In Ames, No. 22 Iowa State continued its strong start to the season, dispatching South Dakota 55-7. Coming off a "Week 0" victory in Ireland, the Cyclones showed no signs of fatigue. Quarterback Rocco Becht was nearly perfect, setting a school record for completion percentage by going 19-for-20 for 278 yards and three touchdowns. His precision guided an offense that scored with ease, putting the game well out of reach early on and allowing the Cyclones to move to 2-0 on the young season.
