Thirty years ago today, a new anime premiered on television in Japan. One that seemed standard fare for the time, giant robots fighting giant monsters, etc. What no one really knew was that it would end up becoming one of the cornerstones of all of modern pop culture as we know it, one that's still analyzed to this day in its storytelling, themes, and artistry. Many people have taken their cracks at discussing it, and now it's our turn.
