EP 20 - Lydia’s Toastmasters Story of Leadership Opportunities and Success
Description
Listen in on Lydia’s inspiring journey with Toastmasters.
Lydia joined her first club in White Rock, BC, Canada. She was motivated by a desire to improve public speaking for a sales career.
Over 30 years, she’s participated in various clubs, including advance and online clubs, and held numerous leadership roles.
Lydia’s Toastmasters journey includes being a district director twice (2017–2018 and 2020–2021).
The first tenure coincided with the international Toastmasters convention in Vancouver, while the second occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring a challenging shift to online meetings and contests.
Her leadership path started early, organizing conferences just months after joining, which set the stage for future opportunities. She attributes her growth to mentors like Dr. Irene Evans, who encouraged her leadership journey.
Now a business coach, she credits Toastmasters for their ability to guide others effectively. Lydia emphasized the organization’s value as a “leadership gymnasium” where members can develop their skills in a supportive environment.
For those considering joining, her advice is to explore different clubs, as each has its unique culture, and to take the leap despite initial fears. Toastmasters is a welcoming space where individuals can thrive and achieve lasting personal growth.
