Economics Minister Upbeat on Taiwan's Future Despite Trump Tariff Threats
Economics Minister Kuo Jyh-huei says he believes U-S President-elect Donald
Trump's mooted 10-per cent tariff on all U-S imports will have a limited
effect on Taiwan.
However, Kuo is warning that Trump's proposed 60-per cent levy on
Chinese-made products will have an impact on Taiwanese firms operating in
China.
According to Kuo, he agrees with media speculation that Trump's election win
could result in more Taiwanese businesses in China to return to Taiwan, and
the government has policies planned to assist supply chains with overseas
market arrangements (安排).
Kuo says Trump's claim that Taiwan "stole" America's chip industry was a
"misunderstanding" .. and many experts on the matter believe that the U.S.
and Taiwan complement each other in the semiconductor supply chain.
