Dr. Laura Vater is a writer, lecturer, and hematological oncologist. As a physician writer, she writes narrative medicine articles and is currently working on her first novel. In 2017, she created a program to assist patients and professionals in organizing and prioritizing their health information (the SMILE Scale), which is now used in schools and clinics across the U.S. and the U.K. She got her master's degree in public health from the University of Pittsburgh, and completed her doctorate in medicine and Internal Medicine residency from Indiana University School of Medicine. Her research focuses on breast and lung cancer, as well as disparities in cancer prevention.
