EPISODE #31: The Complexity of Being An Immigrant & Bridging Worlds With Editor-in-Chief & Co-founder of Scandinavia Standard, Rebecca Thandi Norman.

Boston-born Rebecca Thandi Norman first came to Denmark as as 21-year old exchange student, and as life would have it, she ended up staying, and has called it home for the past 13 years. Today's episode is a beautiful story of up-rooting, finding home in a new territory and how this is not always easy - actually far from it,

Rebecca is truly a woman I admire. Ever since I first discovered Scandinavia Standard - your one-stop destination for Scandinavian lifestyle in English - the mix of everything from highlighting what is going on in the cities each month, the focus on design, art, food, music and architecture spiced up with very well-written pieces highlighting important subject such as 'hygge-racism', an outside explaining how it is to go to the doctor in Denmark and the difference between the #MeToo Movement in Denmark and Sweden. This episode truly goes into so many layers of what it means to be an immigrant in Denmark, the benefits, the struggles and all in between, which we are here to talk about.

Rebecca and I chat about:

- The complexity of being an immigrant no matter the reason you got here, and what it means to truly belong somewhere.

- How Rebecca and her Co-founder, Freya started Scandinavia Standard and the journey from then till today.

- How the Danish Healthcare System can be categorized as a Gatekeeping system, which we both has felt ourselves, and the struggles this brings to life.

- The truth about the entrepreneurial life and finances - how it is far from what it looks like on social media, and asking questions around we do not talk enough about our finances, how much money it actually takes to live the life that we want and creating healthy discussions around it in our community.

- How the mission of Scandinavia Standard has changed over the years, and how Rebecca see the future of online media.

- What living in Denmark taught has taught Rebecca, and if there was one thing she could change about Denmark what that would be.

I am so excited to bring you this episode, which in my humble opinion puts into focus something we don't talk enough about - actually far from it, and I honestly learned a lot from Rebecca's story as a Danish habitant. I hope you will step into this episode with an open mind, curious heart and just grow along with us.
