Description

Have you ever been concerned about your therapist’s qualifications? Have you ever been alarmed by their youthful appearance (i.e., lack of life experience) or credentials, or the lack thereof?

Well, if you have, you are not alone. It is actually quite common. Even a seasoned therapist’s youthful appearance may be thrown in to question from time to time. One reason we vet our therapists seemingly more often (but not always) than other medical professional is because there is something about our mental, emotional, and relational well-being that adds an extra dose of vulnerability. Thus, an inexperienced therapist can be alarming when searching for a therapist.

In this episode of Therapists’ Take, we are going to tackle the unique phenomenon of working with a “newbie” therapist. We welcome to the conversation guest therapist and professor, Dr. Kelly Roberts, who serves as the clinical director of the marriage and family therapy program at Oklahoma Christian University. This means she is responsible for training bright new minds of our therapeutic future. Join us as we discuss that new therapists can be a delightful surprise as they are often more than meets the eye.
