Episode 22: On EMDR - What Is It Good For?
Description
EMDR is a form a trauma treatment that his highly effective and greatly revered amongst the mental health community as well as those seeking mental services. In case you are not aware, EMDR stands for “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.” It gets its name because Francine Shapiro, the founder and primary developer of EMDR, first discovered it because of the physiological and emotional changes she felt when she moved her eyes in certain ways. After further investigation and development, EMDR isn’t so much about eye movement as it is about bilateral stimulation. In other words, stimulating both hemispheres of the brain with the intentional purpose of reprocessing trauma has shown to be highly effective in healing and trauma recovery work.
In this episode, Carrie Kyger is joined once again by Rebel Buersmeyer who is back again to substitute in as co-host in place of regular co-host, Joshua Nichols. Carrie and Rebel are trained EMDR therapists, who make regular use of this unique form of trauma treatment in their private practice. Here is the breakdown of the episode:
- 1. Who Is EMDR Most Effective For?
- 2. What Else Can It Be Used For?
- 3. What Is EMDR Like from the Client’s Perspective?
