Charles Calomiris is Henry Kaufman Professor of Financial Institutions at Columbia University. He is an expert on banking, corporate finance, financial history and monetary economics. He also advised John McCain's 2008 Presidential Campaign. We discuss why banks are political institutions, why populism is dangerous for banking, and whether we should adopt a gold standard - among other topics.
