Description

On episode 44 of the Platform to Perform Podcast I spoke to Youth S&C Researcher, Ben Pullen. A self-confessed coach at heart, Ben’s PhD has looked at how to optimise youth athletic development. As part of his project, he has delivered interventions to improve the athletic motor skill competency of secondary school children. On today’s episode Ben and I discussed:

· The difference between ‘traditional’ strength and conditioning v strength and conditioning in the P.E curriculum

· Ben’s thoughts on physical testing in traditional S&C environments vs school settings

· Ben’s research into how physical competency with fundamental movement skills affects psychological factors such as self esteem, confidence and motivation

· The relationship between strength and movement competency

· Ben’s research and critique of movement screens
