Description

Taiki Okubo joins the Boundless Pursuit podcast this week from the complete opposite end of the globe. An avid angler out of Japan, Taiki is often chasing some of the most familiar species to anglers here in the US! We talk about Japan's flourishing populations of largemouth and smallmouth bass, channel catfish, salmonids, bluegill and other American transplants. We talk about the perception these popular American species have in Japan, and the growing culture of chasing these fish on artificial lures.

We also talk about some of Taiki's amazing travels... including a solo backpacking expedition through the Amazon jungle targeting arapaima, wolf fish, and peacock bass on lures - purely on the merit of his own ambition. We talk monster toman snakeheads in Malaysia, and introduced northern snakeheads in Japan. We discuss some of Japan's unique native species like the Japanese baramundi (akame) and its unique saltwater scene.
