Description

My guest today is Eve Meyer, who shares her story of suicide prevention in her own family that turned into a profession and her new life as a standup comic.

Eve Meyer was executive director of San Francisco Suicide Prevention for thirty years, until 2018. She made frequent appearances in print and broadcast media in that capacity and financial contributions to the agency tripled despite annual cutbacks in public funding. New programs opened during her tenure include the HIV Nightline, Youth Risk Reduction, Relapse Prevention Line, Linea de Crisis, Grief Response, Attempt Survivors Groups, Night Coverage and Chat/Text Crisis Services.

She earned a Masters Degree in social work from the University of Chicago and a Masters Degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan. Since retiring, Ms. Meyer has joined the performing arts community in San Francisco as a stand up comic in addition to her crisis consultation practice. She speaks fluent German and French, and also designs jewelry as a hobby.
