Booker T. is arguably one of the greatest wrestlers of all times. He’s certainly the most decorated, having held 21 WCW(World Championship Wrestling) titles and 35 championships over all. He was first introduced to wrestling through his trainer, Ivan Putski, as G.I. Bro, and soon began to team up with his older brother, Stevie Ray. Ok, that’s obviously Booker T., the wrestler. Booker T., the musician, was part of the famous Stax Records house band, Booker T. & The M.G.’s. Easy mistake.
Booker T. & The M.G.’s were perhaps the most best house band around at that time (at least the funkiest; I see you Funk Brothers). They played on some the great hits by Otis Reading, Wilson Pickett, Albert King, and Sam & Dave. They came up with their first and best known hit, Green Onions, just messing around while waiting to play for Billy Lee Riley.
A better story would have been a blend of the two. He would defend his WCW championship belt in the afternoon, and then do a night session recording In the Midnight Hour with Wilson Pickett that same night. As it is, he has to settle for being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, just not the wrestling one. He is still alive though…
