THE PROBLEM
Not all labiaplasty surgeries are created equal.While thousands of women each year seek labiaplasty to feel more comfortable, balanced, and confident, many are surprised to find that their results fall short — sometimes far short — of what they hoped for.
If you had a labiaplasty and now feel unhappy, uneven, uncomfortable, or self-conscious, please know this:
You are not alone.And your results can be corrected.
For over 20 years, I have specialized exclusively in cosmetic gynecology and, in particular, the complex art of Revision Labiaplasty — repairing or refining a previous surgery so that the labia look and feel natural again. This is among the most delicate work in all of cosmetic surgery, but it is also the most rewarding.
Many women come to me devastated, believing nothing can be done. Yet with careful technique and experience, we often achieve results that are even more beautiful, balanced, and comfortable than the original surgery should have produced.
By Red Alinsod, MD — Founder of Radiofrequency Cosmetic Gynecology and Creator of the Feathering and Grooving Technique
My Path to Revision Expertise
Two decades ago, I pioneered the use of Radiofrequency (RF) in Cosmetic Gynecology. At the time, no other surgeon was using RF to sculpt the labia with precision. Because so many women were coming to me with thick, irregular, or jagged edges from other surgeons’ work, I developed a new, gentle method to blend, smooth, and reshape damaged or uneven tissue.
I named it the Alinsod Feathering Technique.
Unlike traditional cutting instruments, radiofrequency allows micro-precision shaping with controlled heat and minimal trauma. This gives me the ability to:
* Smooth uneven or jagged edges
* Reduce bulky or thickened tissue
* Soften scar lines
* Blend color and texture differences
* Recreate natural curves
* Improve symmetry
* Restore a softer, more natural appearance
Over the years, this technique has become a global standard for revision surgery. I have taught it to cosmetic gynecologists on five continents, and surgeons from around the world travel to train with me.
But most importantly:It has helped thousands of women feel like themselves again.
Why So Many Labiaplasties Go Wrong
Labiaplasty requires expertise that most training programs simply don’t teach. Labiaplasty surgery is currently not taught in Medical School, Internship, Residency, Fellowships. It is typically learned AFTER finishing Residency and Fellowships. Surgeons without extensive specialized experience often make errors such as:
* Removing too much tissue
* Leaving thick, “beveled” or jagged cut rims
* Creating unnatural straight lines
* Leaving excess tissue behind
* Poorly placed sutures
* Overly tight sutures
* Overhealed or hypertrophic scarring
* Asymmetry that worsens over time
* Loss of natural color blending
* Pain during intimacy or with clothing
Women frequently tell me they feel embarrassed, angry, or betrayed by their initial results.
Yet the good news is this:
Most botched or disappointing labiaplasties can be improved — most times rather dramatically. That is my specialty.
What Revision Surgery Can Achieve
Revision labiaplasty is not a “redo.”It is an art form.
Using microsurgical and pinpoint precision, I can reshape what was previously over-resected, uneven, bulky, or scarred. With radiofrequency Feathering, I am often able to correct problems without the need for major new excisions or suturing.
Revision surgery may help if you have:
* Irregular or choppy edges
* Thick, dark, or wavy cut lines
* Asymmetry between the labia
* Pain from previous scarring
* A “botched” appearance
* Tissue removed unevenly or excessively
* Results that simply do not look natural
Many of my patients say they finally feel normal, comfortable, and whole again — sometimes for the first time in years.
A Gentle, Honest Approach
Although I am known internationally as one of the most experienced revision surgeons in the world, I always approach each patient with humility. Every woman’s body — and every woman’s story — deserves respect. I realize I can’t fix everything but I can fix much.
Some revisions require only minor Feathering. Others need more extensive surgical reconstruction. I get to talk to you about your goals, what bothers you, what you want fixed. We work together to create an artistic revision.
But no matter the situation, my goal is always the same:
Restore natural beauty, function, and confidence with the least trauma possible.
