Fighting fraud on peer-to-peer marketplaces
Description
We all love a bargain. Whether it's haggling at a market, a car boot sale or online. Peer-to-peer marketplaces connect buyers and sellers online and PwC predicts that this market will be worth $355 billion by 2025. However, 90% of people report being approached by scammers or know someone that has been scammed while buying or selling online. I am joined by Pablo Gonzalez-Iglesias, Co-founder and CEO of vendi a UCL backed startup making it safer to buy and sell online.
In 2018, Pablo was scammed while selling his mobile phone using a popular marketplace. He arranged to meet who he thought was an honest buyer that turned out to be a fraudster and an accomplice that physically attacked him and stole his phone. This attack was particularly shocking as it occurred in broad daylight in a busy public space.
