Story Transcript:

Ja: 大晦日の朝、雪がしんしんと降り積もる中、春はコートをきつく締めながら家の窓から外を見ていました。
En: On the morning of Omisoka, as snow fell silently and piled up, Haru tightened her coat and looked out the window.

Ja: 今年も祖父母の墓参りをする日が来たのです。
En: The day had come again to visit the graves of her grandparents.

Ja: これまでは母や父が音頭を取っていましたが、今ではそれが春の役割です。
En: In the past, her mother and father took the lead, but now that role belonged to Haru.

Ja: 「行きたくないよ」と声を上げたのは、弟のユキです。
En: "I don't want to go," said her younger brother Yuki, raising his voice.

Ja: いつものように反発する表情で立っています。
En: He stood with his usual rebellious expression.

Ja: リビングには、兄のサトシもいました。
En: In the living room, her older brother Satoshi was also present.

Ja: サトシは、二人の間でいつも困った顔をしていました。
En: Satoshi always looked troubled between the two of them.

Ja: 「ユキ、祖父母が待っているよ」と春は静かに言いました。
En: "Yuki, our grandparents are waiting," Haru said quietly.

Ja: 祖父母を思い出すと、少し心が温かくなるものです。
En: Remembering her grandparents brought a slight warmth to her heart.

Ja: 彼らのことを考えると、兄弟喧嘩なんて小さなことだと思えます。
En: Thinking about them made sibling quarrels seem like such small matters.

Ja: 「でも、それはもう昔のことだ」と、ユキは反論しました。
En: "But that's all in the past," Yuki argued back.

Ja: 「僕たちには関係ないだろう？」
En: "It has nothing to do with us, does it?"

Ja: 「そう言うな」とサトシが、横からそっと言いました。
En: "Don't say that," Satoshi gently interjected.

Ja: 「大事なことだと思うよ。」
En: "I think it's important."

Ja: 外に出ると、冷たい風が迎えてくれました。
En: When they stepped outside, a cold wind greeted them.

Ja: 雪が積もった道は静かで美しく、空気は透き通っています。
En: The snow-covered path was quiet and beautiful, and the air was clear.

Ja: 小さな墓地に着くと、春は少しホッとしました。
En: Arriving at the small cemetery, Haru felt a little relieved.

Ja: あの古い石碑が、時代を超えてそこに立っています。
En: The old gravestone stood there, transcending time.

Ja: 「祖父母は、どんな人だったの？」とユキが小声で聞きました。
En: "What kind of people were our grandparents?" Yuki asked softly.

Ja: その質問に春は、一瞬黙りました。
En: Haru fell silent for a moment at the question.

Ja: 「優しくて、強い人だったよ。家族をすごく大事にしてた。」
En: "They were kind and strong people. They valued family greatly."

Ja: 「それが、今の僕たちにどう関係あるの？」ユキの声に、少し不満が混じっていました。
En: "What does that have to do with us now?" Yuki's voice had a hint of dissatisfaction.

Ja: 「ユキ…、君がそんな風に感じるのは、分かるよ。
En: "Yuki... I understand why you feel that way.

Ja: ただ、僕たちがこうしてここにいるのも…、彼らのおかげだと思うんだ。」春は、声に力を込めました。
En: But I believe that the reason we're here today... is thanks to them," Haru said with conviction.

Ja: ユキは、しばらく何も言わずに石碑を見つめていました。
En: Yuki remained silent as he gazed at the gravestone.

Ja: そして、ぽつりと呟きました。「僕は、兄さんが理解してくれないと思ってた。
En: Then he murmured, "I thought my big brother wouldn't understand.

Ja: でも、少しだけ変わったかな。」
En: But maybe things have changed a bit."

Ja: それから三人は、しばらくの間じっと雪の降る静かな墓地に立っていました。
En: For a while, the three of them stood quietly in the snow-covered cemetery.

Ja: 家族の誰もが、そこに何かを見つけていたようです。
En: It seemed that each family member found something there.

Ja: その後の大晦日、家に帰った彼らは、いつもとは少し違う過ごし方をしました。今度は、もっとお互いを理解するために。
En: Later that Omisoka, when they returned home, they spent the day in a slightly different way than usual, now aiming to understand each other more.

Ja: 春は悟りました。大事なのは、家族をつなぐことと、共にいること。
En: Haru realized what was important was connecting with family and being together.

Ja: そして、ユキも、少し安心した表情を見せました。
En: Yuki also showed a slightly more reassured expression.

Ja: この冬の日、家族は新しい一歩を踏み出したのです。
En: On this winter day, the family took a new step forward.
