Description
"Ballerina" from the world of John Wick is an over-the-top action thriller that's really an extended stunt reel. In the fifth film in the bloody franchise, Ana de Armas plays a ballerina who trains for a lifetime to become an assassin. You don't need to know much about the thin plot, just go with the flow and take in the spectacular stunt work executed by the best in the business.
In the sleazy Australian horror film "Dangerous Animals," Jai Courtney plays the owner of an excursion boat that provides tourists with the chance to swim with sharks...in protective cages, of course. Problem is, Courtney is a twisted weirdo who likes to videotape people being eaten by sharks. While it's reasonably well made and Courtney is a chilling villain, "Dangerous Animals" plays to a very distressing aspect of horror lovers' psyche.
It may be animated, but the Hulu sci-fi action thriller "Predator: Killer of Killers" ain't for the kiddies. The eighth installment in the franchise is a smart, slickly made time-jumping anthology depicting three fierce Earth warriors -a Viking, a Samurai and a WWII pilot- who've battled the alien sport hunters. It’s very violent but is elevated by sharp dialogue and zippy pace.
The Max black comedy "Mountainhead" is the cinematic equivalent of fingernails on the chalkboard. It's an off-putting social satire about four billionaires who meet to see how they can exploit an unfolding series of man-made global catastrophes. Steve Carrell, Corey Michael Smith, Jason Schwartzman and Ramy Youssef give it their all, and their foul-mouthed narcissism generates a few laughs. But more often, “Mountainhead” uses a sledgehammer approach that’s more irritating than funny.
