Move over "Barbenheimer," it's time for the "Stitch Impossible" weekend. The live-action remake of Disney's 2002 animated hit "Lilo & Stitch" has landed on Earth, with our fugitive alien befriending a lonely young Hawaiian girl and causing considerable chaos as he learns about the importance of family. The cast is appealing, and the production values are sharp. While the new “Lilo & Stitch” adds nothing new, it’s a likeably messy fantasy should clean up at the box office.
After watching "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning," the 3-hour finale to the 8-film action series, you may say to yourself, "Hey, that's impossible." You'd be right. Still, it's highly probable that you'll be very entertained. Tom Cruise as secret agent Ethan Hunt is in a globe-spanning race to thwart an artificial intelligence that's taken control of the world's nuclear arsenal. Problem is, Ethan and his Impossible Mission team must work against the Russians and the US authorities as well as the evil “Entity.” Zippy, well-staged action, great stunt work and plenty of over-the-top spectacle make “Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning” a fitting franchise climax.
The Netflix action comedy "Fountain of Youth" follows a formula that owes an awful lot to the Indiana Jones franchise. John Krasinski and Natalie Portman play brother-and-sister adventurers who set out to find the legendary Fountain of Youth only to encounter hair-raising complications. Director Guy Ritchie knows his way around action, but he doesn't have the deft touch and sense of giddy fun that Steven Spielberg brought to the Indiana Jones movies. It's passable, but "Fountain of Youth" is a watered-down imitation.
