Hazardous Weather Outlook. This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of northern. western. central. and southern Oklahoma. and western north Texas. Day one. Today and Tonight. Heat. Hot temperatures combined with high humidity will lead to heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees across north central, central, and southern Oklahoma, and western north Texas. A Heat Advisory is in effect for this afternoon and early evening. If you have to be outdoors today, take steps to prevent heat related illnesses. Thunderstorms. Some isolated storms could affect portions of western north Texas and southern Oklahoma this morning. Severe weather is not expected with these storms. Later today, isolated severe storms could develop late this afternoon and evening. There is a Marginal Risk for portions of western Oklahoma and western north Texas. Large hail up to the size of golf balls and damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph will be the main concerns. Days two through seven. Saturday through Thursday. Thunderstorms. Showers and thunderstorms will affect the area this weekend. On Saturday, storms are expected to develop Saturday afternoon and continue into early Sunday. There is an Enhanced Risk for severe storms across portions of northern, western, and central Oklahoma, generally northwest of I-44. There is a Slight Risk for the rest of central and southwest Oklahoma with a Marginal Risk across the rest of the area. Very large hail and damaging winds will be the main concerns. There could also be a low risk for tornadoes across portions of the area Saturday afternoon and evening. Storms will likely be ongoing across parts of the area Sunday morning. Some of these storms could be severe with damaging winds possible. Additional storms will be possible Sunday afternoon and night. There is some uncertainty what will happen Sunday afternoon and night depending on what happens Saturday night into Sunday morning. However, there is a Slight Risk across all but far northwest Oklahoma which has a Marginal Risk. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main concerns. There may also be a tornado risk in parts of the area. Thunderstorm chances will continue into Monday, with another chance across portions of the area Wednesday. Heavy Rain and Flooding. The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 7 PM Central Daylight Time this evening. Heat index values. Up to 107 because of temperatures in the mid 90s and dewpoints in the mid 70s. Timing. Throughout the afternoon into early evening. Impacts. The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure. Precautionary/preparedness actions. A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
