Description

On night 7 of our #31DaysToHalloween the Mister joins me in reviewing SCANNERS (1981), from writer/director David Cronenberg. Cameron Vale (Stephen Lack), a derelict man with uncontrolled telepathic and psychokinetic powers known as a "scanner," is recruited by the private security firm ConSec to track down Darryl Revok (Michael Ironside), a dangerously powerful, rogue scanner intent on starting a war with normal humanity. As Vale infiltrates Revok's organization, he uncovers a vast corporate conspiracy involving a drug that created the scanners and discovers a shocking family connection to his formidable adversary. The conflict culminates in an intense psychic duel between the two scanners, determining the future of their powerful kind. The film clocks in at 1 h and 43 m, is rated R. We caught the film on the TCM app but it is streaming on HBO Max, Hulu and to buy/rent on Prime Video. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
