It may be affecting you personally or may just be something you've become aware of through conversations & the news:  GPs finding it a struggle to get jobs!

For it to be a challenge in becoming employed as a GP is a strange headline.  GPs are considered amongst the most employable people, almost guaranteed a job, and several surveys have focused on practices struggling to recruit GPs, and GPs proactively choosing not to take up permanent positions.  Along with this, government papers and schemes aimed at encouraging GPS to join practices.   Recent GMC published findings and the recently ended fellowship schemes highlight the position.  Yet, now it seems the tide has turned?  This certainly seems to be the case according to the recently published findings from the RCGP (Royal College of General Practitioners): Majority of GPs finding it a struggle to secure jobs.

The aim of this episode is not to analyse the findings of the RCGP.  Nor is it to challenge or deny the struggles that some GPs may be facing, but to consider some of the factors that may have contributed to this and, importantly, to suggest what you, the GP on the front line, should be doing about it.

As for non-GP clinicians, the GP anxiety over employment opportunities is something they should at least be aware of, as becomes apparent during the discussion.
