Description

The other night I was watching some replays from the Olympics and NBC had done a segment on one of the USA Men solo figure skaters, who was projected to medal. He did an amazing routine, and I think he got 4th place because the top three Really Really blew everyone away. Anyways, in the segment they were showing cute clips of when he first started skating when he was like 5 years old, maybe even younger. They showed a clip of him after a competition when he was 8 and the interviewer asked something like when he’ll make it big and this little eight year old said he’d be at the 2018 olympics! All this amazing stuff of how in love with skating he is and how driven he has been, even at such a young age. Showing his first skating coach, all this stuff. One of the people they showed was his ballet teacher, who was from some fancy special company.

Anyways,  what I LOVED was when the ballet teacher was talking and he said that the most important lesson that he taught, I think it was Nathan Chen, but the lesson was that he had to learn to be Comfortable being Uncomfortable. The ballet teacher continued to explain that it’s because Nathan really embraced the lesson, that’s why he has been so amazing and now on the olympic team. He learned to be comfortable being uncomfortable.

I REALLY LOVED That because as I was sitting there watching the olympics I was actually avoiding somethings I knew I needed to get done for work, one of them ironically being recording an episode for this podcast so I could launch it. I’m not super comfortable talking, I actually even have some minor hearing problems, which makes talking to people exciting sometimes. But because of my hearing and I having young kids, the last 5 or so years I’ve really taken a step back socially and I normally hide behind my kids, and especially my husband. He is actually a Chaplain in the Army, which isn’t a common job, and it’s not a very well understood job, especially in our religion, so at any sort of social event people are always very interested in his career and everything so I just got really used to and comfortable being in the background and being the supporting wife who keeps everything together behind the scenes.

So when I started this business adventure and I was challenged by my mentor to start publishing and getting my message out there it was INCREDIBLY daunting to me. And I did a lot, mostly subconsciously, but some intentionally, like watching an olympic segment when I was supposed to be working, to avoid things.  But it was so ironic because here I was, avoiding work because it made me really nervous and uncomfortable, and then there is this teacher who helped someone get to the Olympics, he is right in front of me saying that the key to greatness is to Be Comfortable Being Uncomfortable.

It’s completely true though. Uncomfortable things aren’t bad, they are just uncomfortable because they are new, it’s unknown territory Most of the time it requires us to be vulnerable because we will be putting ourself out there and now the world can judge us and throw their opinions out. So it can be scary, and maybe even paralyzing. But if we just stick with what we are comfortable with then we won’t get any new results.

So I realized that if I want to meet my goals and getting my business to making six figures then I had to start doing things differently.

On one of my favorite podcasts, 8 Minute Millionaire, the hosts Tara and Justin Williams often say that it’s the things that we are most afraid of doing that are the most important thing for us to do for our business to succeed.

So I finished the segment and then got up over to my desk and got some work to do and I want to challenge you to do the same thing. I’m sure you can think of something that you have thought would be good for your business but shy-ed away from it because of XYZ. So I want you to do it. Let’s do it together. Do it this week and let me know how it goes. It might not be perfect at first but the more you tackle it, the better you’ll get at it, the more it will be able to serve you and your business.

So let me know how that goes, what you did and I look forward to hear what you guys started! Until next time!
