Have you struggled to move from an environment that you are so comfortable with and from friends that you know so well to a whole different environment and demographic of people? Have you ever been in a situation where you experienced a lot of anxiety and depression at a very young age? Do you feel like you are different from the crowd? Or feel like there is something fundamentally wrong with you? At the same time, you want a sense of community and belongingness around you. How long will you be able to get out of the tunnel of darkness and seek light?

This week's ikala Podcast episode, David Gonzales will be joined by Sabrina Chong. Sabrina was born in the Bay Area and experienced anxiety and depression at a very young age. She found solace in the earth and in fitness. It can be easy to feel a lack of power while being stuck inside, so she found joy in being outdoors. As a crossfitter, she strongly believes that everyone should have that same ability to not only connect with nature but also to find joy through movement. Part of her never wants to see someone go through what she experienced. She found a community where she can be herself, belong without any judgment, and push herself to the limit.


They will touch on such topics as:


  • Don’t regret the things that you have learned and experienced, but it’s not easy to endure the struggles you went through.


  • You have to experience some kind of struggle in order to know what is better.


  • As humans, we are built to be around people; Speak up and seek assistance from others.


  • Find your own fitness that can change your mood and will give you a different perspective on life.


  • Find a way to express yourself and an environment where you can feel like it’s a family where you belong.


  • Go after what you think can make you feel better all around, which can give you purpose in a sense of loving yourself
