Description

In 1972, Wallace Wade Stadium, Dukes football venue, hosted the first Pelican Bowl, a championship game between Grambling State and North Carolina Central. Originally planned for Louisiana, a tragedy led to the games relocation to Durham, NC. Despite North Carolina Centrals home-field advantage, Grambling State won 56-6, marking the first bowl game in North Carolina since 1942. The Pelican Bowl, however, was short-lived, but this event highlights Wallace Wades history of hosting significant events.
