Health Highlights: Prostate health; How drinking affects the brain; Best seafood to eat

Description
You’ve probably heard the old sayings about preferring to “watch paint dry” or even “have a root canal” rather than face something unpleasant. But a new survey suggests many men feel that way about talking to their doctors. According to Orlando Health, 38% of men said they’d rather do almost anything — even sit in traffic — than discuss their prostate health. Doctors emphasize, however, that regular prostate checks are crucial for early detection and prevention of serious health issues. Meanwhile, new research from the American Academy of Neurology reveals another health concern — heavy drinking. The study found that consuming three or more alcoholic drinks per day can not only harm the body but also accelerate brain aging. Heavy drinkers were three times more likely to experience brain damage and were at higher risk of suffering a bleeding stroke at a younger age. On the nutrition front, seafood remains one of the healthiest protein sources — but not all fish are created equal. Experts say salmon and sardines top the list for their heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. However, swordfish should be eaten sparingly due to high mercury levels. And while fish and chips may sound like a smart seafood choice, the deep-frying and calorie-heavy tartar sauce can cancel out many of the health benefits. Bottom line: Stay proactive about screenings, drink in moderation, and make smart seafood choices — your body (and brain) will thank you.
