In the heart of the temple was the place of God's presence. The Holiest place, the hagia hagiōn, the Holy of Holies. It was the place of the superlative presence of God and it was a place that was forbidden for all to enter into, save the High Priest, and He but once a year, with the blood of the sacrifice. It was a terrible and glorious thing to be the one to enter in, and behold the glory… but in that terrible glory was the stark reminder that he did not belong there… This is no longer the case, for now in Christ we are called to enter and do so boldly, for the barrier is destroyed and Christ has paid the price, and more, He has given us both His right and His righteousness in order to make us welcome. The holiest place is open to all who belong to Christ… not a cubic room in a destroyed temple, but the very throne room of heaven itself, the throne of our Father is open to us!
