Today the story comes from a place called Gaza.

In a place called Gaza, things have been very difficult for families. There is a lot of fighting, and loud sounds called strikes can be heard. These strikes are very scary and have made many people's homes not safe anymore. Sadly, many people have been hurt because of the fighting. Everyone is hoping for a peaceful time to come soon, a time when all the children can play outside without being afraid. People around the world are sending their wishes for safety and peace to everyone there.



Now, let's go through the story sentence by sentence. 現在,讓我們一句一句來讀這個故事。

In a place called Gaza, things have been very difficult for families.

There is a lot of fighting, and loud sounds called strikes can be heard.

Our first word is difficult. D-I-F-F-I-C-U-L-T, difficult. It means 困難的. Something that is difficult is not easy to do or understand. A synonym for difficult is 'hard', and the opposite is 'easy'. Let's make a sentence: This math problem is very difficult.



Our second word is strike. S-T-R-I-K-E, strike. It is a hit or an attack. 在這個新聞裡是指「攻擊」. A synonym is 'attack', and the opposite could be 'defense'. For example: The army launched a strike at night.



Next up, we have safe. S-A-F-E, safe. It means 安全的, not in danger. A synonym for safe is 'secure', and the opposite is 'dangerous'. A sentence could be: Please find a safe place to hide during the earthquake.



Our last word is peaceful. P-E-A-C-E-F-U-L, peaceful. It means 和平的 or 寧靜的, a time without any fighting or trouble. A synonym is 'calm', and the opposite is 'chaotic'. Let's make a sentence: I wish for a peaceful world for everyone.
