IF YOU LOVE WEREWOLF THEMED TALES DON'T CHEAT YOURSELF OUT OF THIS AWESOME IF SIMPLISTIC READ!
I brought Howling Changes because the one and only review I read was so negative. Sometimes I buy heavily negative rated books and other things on Amazon just to see how bad they really are TO ME! Yes even a bad werewolf story is something I want to at least explore. Howling Changes actually shocked me a bit because; it turned out to be quite good for a beginning writer. The one thing I must agree with is there is no way in heck Howling Changes is worth $16 in paperback form. I'd be hard pressed to pay $4.99 for Howling Changes in paperback form. At $3.03 for the kindle edition it was overpriced BUT almost worth it. I was just painfully curious after reading the only one 1 star rated review at that time. I figured hey I make good money so I can afford to endulge my morid couriosity about Howling Changes asking myself could any werewolf book really be one AMAZON.COM star BAD!. My ample if biased review is below. HOPE YOU ENJOY I SURE DID!
Ok first I must confest that I actually love any pretty good werewolf story with a reviewer name like THE AUTISTIC WEREWOLF I am hardly hiding it am I? Anyways Howling Changes is not a bad werewolf themed story no matter what else you may have read elsewhere. The only real negative about Howling Changes is that the mis-spellings and wrong word forms used does slow the enjoyment of the book. It is almost as if the writer let the word correct feature on his "WERD" Processor run amuck. Trust me the word processor spell correct does not always "NO" best.
There are instances where it should be NO instead of KNOW or vise versa. There are mis pelled words galore and other stupid little grammatical flaws NONE OF WHICH TAKE AWAY FROM A FIRST RATE STORY! The spelling and other language flaws are numerous enough to be irritating but in no way detract from the flow of the otherwise great story. The pacing of Howling Changes is pretty much spot on. Action comes at the right times and I was rarely bored. The plot is a sort of inventive take on werewolves and vampires enough that I am looking forward to book 2 in the series.
The Vampires in this book have far greater killing power than the werewolves which I did not like but hey no werewolf ever gets a fair break against the vamps these days. Blood suckers ewwwe, but I degress. The story is told in a very fundemental way. The writing style is that of a very new writer who has great potential but much of it is unrealized at this point in his career. The story is solid and the basic characters were well fleshed out. This is not a great literary work that rivals the masters. The details this book draws are adequate enough to let your imagination fill in all the blanks. Matter of fact the primative writing style of Howling Changes is a blessing simply because; it leaves the reader free to populate the voids with one's own vivid imagination.
