I Live For The Organ, That I Am Grinding…

Everybody knows the Hammond B3 Organ. Even if you don’t know the name, you’ll know the sound. It’s basically used in every genre of music and it sounds, soulful, jazzy, of the blues, whatever you can think of. These next few post, I’ll be introducing you to a few of the organist that I have in my collection. A few bluesy cuts, but you know me, I like the funk, so most of these will be straight jumpin’.
Theis first cat I’ve just recently discovered, thanks to my aunt, Garnet, I picked up my love for music through my family. My parents, aunt, uncle and grandmother all equally influenced me early on. My love for jazz I got from G. Now my father was in the Air Force, so I really didn’t grow up seeing my relative much, but when G lent me her record collection for O, it was all the albums I’ve been digging for. Plus, some folks I haven’t heard of.
Charles Earland started out playing his father’s alto sax. At 17,he was good enough to tour with Jimmy McGriff (who I’ll also cover), playing a tenor sax. But the Hammond took him as its own, making Earland practice it on the side. By the time he was done touring with McGriff, he was ready to step out as an organist.
The cut I picked from Earland is what I would open up with if I had any musical talent. I’d just be wandering through the audience, sipping some scotch, talking to the people, get the nod it was time, get up on the stage with no introduction and just smoke this shit right here.
