Description

State MP for Jordan, Charis Mullen, kicked off 2025 with exciting updates for the region. From funding opportunities to community initiatives and infrastructure completions, there’s much to celebrate in the growing electorate.

Gambling Community Benefit Fund Now Open

Queensland’s largest community grants program, the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, is now accepting applications for its first 2025 round. Not-for-profit groups can apply for up to $35,000, with submissions closing on February 28. Recent beneficiaries in the Jordan electorate include the Philippines Australian Multicultural Association ($17,000 for Springfest equipment) and Spring Mountain State School P&C ($33,000 for seating).

Mullen encouraged groups to seek her support for their applications, noting the next round will include a $100,000 “super round.”

Ipswich Thriving Seniors Program

To tackle isolation and loneliness among older residents, the Ipswich Thriving Seniors program is running at the Springfield Lakes YMCA Community Centre. The initiative, funded with $145,000 in annual state support, offers fitness classes, social programs, and events designed to keep seniors active and connected.

Mullen recently attended a “gentle fitness” class and emphasized the importance of such programs in promoting physical and mental well-being among the aging population.

Springfield Greenbank Arterial Upgrades Complete

Locals rejoiced as the duplication of the Springfield Greenbank Arterial officially wrapped up. The project, now featuring four lanes from St. Athanby Boulevard to Springfield Parkway, also includes new signalized intersections.

The long-awaited upgrade to exit 32 off the Centenary Motorway is nearly complete, with final works delayed by recent rain. The $6.5 million project promises to ease peak-hour traffic congestion.

Upcoming Events

The Greater Springfield Kite Festival returns on February 9, bringing nostalgia and community fun. Additionally, the Springfield Anglican College will unveil its new sports centre, developed in partnership with the Pioneers basketball team.

Stay tuned for more updates as Jordan continues to grow and thrive.
