Josh Oqueli, a California native, moved to Colorado for high school and later decided to join the United States Marine Corps to pursue his long-term goals and explore the world. During his deployment in Zaragoza, Spain, he discovered his passion for architecture while visiting Antonio Gaudi's Basilica de la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

Inspired by Gaudi, Josh realized that to create exceptional architecture, he needed to be involved in both the design and construction processes. With a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Master of Architecture from the University of Colorado Denver, he became an NCARB certified Architect, registered in Colorado. He also holds a Class-C Construction license in the City and County of Denver.

In 2013, Josh founded Bonsai Design + Build, an Architect-Led Design + Build firm that combines architecture and construction to focus on high-performance and sustainable architecture. By blurring the lines between design and construction, they offer cost-transparent design options early in the project, ensuring predictability and controlling budgets from the conceptual phase. Clients seek them out for energy-efficient and comfortable buildings delivered within reliable and effective budgets.

Bonsai Design + Build has been featured in Home Builders Digest 19 Best Residential Architects in Colorado, 2023 Best of Mile High Top 3 Architect Firms, and DenverArchitects.org.

In his spare time, Josh trains for marathons. He ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC last year and is preparing for the Portland, Maine Marathon this year.
