LIFT Your Story with Scott Burnside, Reporter, Writer, and Author of Deadly Innocence, The True Story of Paul Bernardo, Karla Homolka, and the Schoolgirl
Description
Scott Burnside. A high school friend of LaurieAnn, who used to tell her how much he loved to write. It is no surprise he ended up as a reporter starting in Windsor and moving to the Toronto Sun, the Globe and Mail, and then ESPN.
During his time at the Toronto Sun, Scott co-authored a book with Alan Cairns named Deadly Innocence, a book about the Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka murders. Scott and Al worked as a team to cover the story, and they were approached by Warners Books to write a book about it. Scott was also on a documentary on Discovery Plus that has just come out, and he says it was strange to go back 20 years ago. Scott covered the story from 1992 to 1996 and said it's a "strange sensation" to go back and remember.
When asked how it was psychologically to cover a story like that, Scott was very gracious in positioning himself as not being nearly as connected and involved as the victims, families, police, and jury. It changes people.
