Description

Last Chance to See a Supermoon in 2025: The Cold Moon on December 4thThe Cold Moon, also known as the December full moon, will grace the night sky on December 4th, marking the final supermoon of 2025. This celestial event, occurring exactly one week after Thanksgiving, promises to be the brightest object in the night sky.Supermoons occur when the moon is at its closest point to Earth, known as perigee, and its a full moon. This Cold Moon is the third of four consecutive supermoons and will be fourteen percent larger and thirty-three percent brighter than a micro moon.Peak illumination for this supermoon will be at six fourteen PM Eastern Time on December 4th. Despite recent daylight saving time changes, it should be dark enough for most of the United States to enjoy the view. The moon will remain nearly full from December 2nd through the 6th.No special equipment is needed to enjoy this spectacle, but binoculars or a telescope can enhance the experience by revealing craters and textures. Just remember to bundle up, as a polar vortex is expected to bring cold temperatures around that time.
