Description

Financial Planner Luke Smith joined 2CC Talking Canberra in Money Matters, which aired live on Friday 8 August 2025. The topic for this week is: How to get the most out of financial planning? A financial planner and their team can only do so much, it’s a process you need to participate in too. Your participation will also affect the results that you get – so make sure you do your part! Luke is joined by Leon Delaney of 2CC to talk about the financial planning process.

Thank you for joining us live on 2CC, YouTube or your favourite podcast streaming service with ‘The Strategy Stacker – Luke Talks Money’.

Key topics covered include:

  • A financial planner can’t save you from yourself, unless you also put in some effort. The same advice applies to any professional that you work with, to ensure you have a good journey.

  • While no body likes paperwork, it’s important to review any paperwork you are sent and get it back on time.

  • If you’re given instructions on how to proceed, read them and follow them.

  • If you need to sign paperwork, sign where indicated – and with a pen if requested to do so – some super funds and investment houses don’t accept digital signatures – and this is not something your financial planner has control over.

  • Make sure you’re confirm your appointments if you’re asked to by text or email.

  • Instalment Tax and Capital Gains Tax is set and managed by the Australian Tax Office, not the financial planner, so be kind to staff if they need to talk to you about this topic and you’re not happy paying it.

  • Luke explores other aspects of the advice process where clients can help.

  • Luke positively challenges listeners to do their bit when meeting and interacting with their financial planner.
