On March 25, in South L.A., hundreds of homeless people tried to obtain Section 8 housing vouchers after false reports on social media surfaced. Would-be applicants crashed an event that was held by a nonprofit advocacy group Fathers and Mothers Who Care, which was established to help the unhoused obtain emergency shelter. The nonprofit was reportedly overwhelmed by the confusion, which caused Representative Maxine Waters to say: 'I want everyone to go home,' that triggered an angry response.
