Methane Capture at 6 Mines Could Help NSW Meet Climate Goals
Update: 2025-12-11
Description
A new report suggests that capturing methane from just six coalmines in New South Wales, Australia, could significantly help the state meet its climate goals. These mines, responsible for half of the states coalmine emissions, could nearly close the projected emissions gap by 2030 and reduce the gap by a third by 2035. The New South Wales Net Zero Commission admits the state is not on track to hit its emissions targets, with planned coal project extensions adding pressure. Both Common Capital and the Net Zero Commission will present their findings at a parliamentary inquiry this Friday.
