1. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and senior members of the INDIA bloc meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to formally protest his reference, in Parliament, to the 'dark days of the Emergency'. The opposition including the NCP's Supriya Sule Misa Bharati from the RJD, and Kanimozhi of Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK has said Mr Birla's actions were 'a very grave matter impacting Parliament's credibility' and expressed 'profound concern and anguish over this travesty of parliamentary traditions'. 2. Controversy from leaked question papers to the award of 'grace marks' over the NEET exam for admission to medical courses found mention in President Droupadi Murmu's speech in Parliament. Addressing a joint sitting of both Houses the first in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third term, and one likely to be rocked by opposition protests over the NEET row Ms Murmu has said the government is 'committed to a fair investigation' and vowed 'strict punishment to the culprits'. 3. The Emergency imposed in 1975 was the darkest chapter of a direct attack on the Constitution, President Droupadi Murmu has said in her address to a joint sitting of Parliament. This is her first address to Parliament after the general election elected a new Lok Sabha. The Constitution, she says, has stood up to every challenge and every test in the past decades. 4. The 'sengol' installed next to the Speaker's chair in Lok Sabha has emerged as the latest flashpoint this Parliament session after Opposition MPs questioned its relevance in a democracy and the BJP accused them of disrespecting Indian culture. The ongoing debate over 'sengol', a handcrafted, gold-plated sceptre about 5-feet long, has been triggered by Samajwadi Party MP RK Chaudhary's letter to Speaker Om Birla. The MP from Mohanlalganj has said the 'sengol' must be replaced by a copy of the Constitution.
