OSU Marion Welcomes New Dean, Celebrates Engineering Success, STEM Camps, Arts Series & Safety Upgrades in September 2025 Update
Update: 2025-09-08
Description
Hello, Buckeyes! Welcome to our latest campus news update for Monday, September 8, 2025. Let's dive into the exciting developments and upcoming events at Ohio State University at Marion.
First, we're thrilled to welcome Dr. Jennifer Schlueter as our new dean and director. Dr. Schlueter began her tenure on March 17, 2025, bringing a wealth of experience from her previous role as vice provost of academic affairs at The New School in New York City. An Ohio State alumna, she earned her PhD in theatre performance, history, and theory right here. Dr. Schlueter is eager to lead our campus into a new era of growth and innovation.
In academic achievements, our Engineering Technology program continues to thrive. Designed to produce highly skilled graduates in manufacturing engineering, the program has seen its first cohorts graduate and secure positions within the industry. Notably, Owen Peters, a 2024 graduate, began his role as a manufacturing equipment engineer at Honda's facility in Anna, Ohio, shortly after graduation. This success underscores the program's effectiveness in preparing students for the workforce and its strong connections with industry partners.
Our commitment to STEM education remains strong. This summer, the campus hosted its annual STEM and Engineering Camps, welcoming 80 middle and high school students from across central and north-central Ohio. These camps provided hands-on experiences in science and engineering, including tours of manufacturing facilities like the Honda East Liberty plant and collaborative projects with faculty. The initiative aims to inspire the next generation of innovators and has received positive feedback from participants.
Looking ahead, mark your calendars for the "Five Nights on Campus" performing arts series. This series features a variety of performances, ranging from pre-war acoustic country blues to a Billy Joel/Elton John tribute act. The season kicks off on Thursday, October 9, 2025, with The SpYder Stompers and Sugar Pie, who will deliver a lively performance of early 20th-century music. Tickets are available for purchase online or at the door on the evening of each event.
In campus safety news, Ohio State has been awarded $257,000 in safety grants. These funds will be used for various enhancements, including installing classroom locks and upgrading alarm systems at the Marion campus. These improvements aim to ensure a secure environment for all students and staff.
That's all for this week's update. Stay engaged, stay informed, and as always, Go Buckeyes!
