Oscar L. Martin - AI Drives Nuclear Comeback
Update: 2024-10-03
Description
Artificial Intelligence requires vast amounts of energy - leading tech giants like Microsoft, Google, Amazon toward nuclear energy. Oscar L. Martin discusses the economic, regulatory & environmental benefits & risks.
Electricity consumption by AI, cloud computing, and cryptocurrency is projected to double by 2026 according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, driving a 13% to 15% annual increase in power demand until 2030. Is this why big tech is suddenly interested in nuclear energy?
Microsoft this month secured a deal to reopen a reactor on Three Mile Island, Amazon is working on putting a data center campus right on the site of a Talen Energy nuclear power plant, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, is also heavily invested in nuclear energy, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai is considering using electricity from nuclear plants to power his company's data centers.
Oscar L. Martin is a strategy, innovation, and transformation executive. Oscar’s extensive career includes executive & technical expertise with cutting-edge technologies, helping designing the early smartphones with Hewlett Packard, designing torpedo stabilizers with BRS Aerospace, developing the video technology used in the Nasdaq building, or leading the development of several subsystem of the Galileo satellites, the European GPS.
Oscar also restructured several companies, including the 22 sites GKN Aerospace has in North America. He also worked in the energy industry with the AKO Group, leading the team designing, manufacturing and building the electrical control software and hardware for nuclear and solar plants.
